SDM Vivek Chaudhary, along with other government officials, visited an orphanage at Sondhapur village this afternoon.

A team of the Health Department medically examined the inmates of the orphanage, despite resistance. The team also found some irregularities in the records during the preliminary investigation.

The district administration had cancelled the registration of the orphanage at Sondhapur village due to financial irregularities and decided to shift all 33 inmates of the private orphanage to government-run institutions in various districts.

On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Dr Chander Shekhar Khare, a team of three doctors, including a woman, from the Health Department visited the orphanage today and examined the girl inmates.

The team faced resistance from the inmates as they were not ready for their medical examination but the SDM and other officials pacified them.

An accounts officer accompanying the team inspected the documents and records of donation, expenses and others, which had been produced by care taker Amarjeet Narwal.

The SDM said he had visited the orphanage on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner. Some irregularities were also found in the preliminary investigation of the documents. The inmates would be medically examined for HIV, HB and other diseases at the general hospital tomorrow as the tests for these ailments could be conducted only in the laboratory. The evacuation of the inmates would be planned after completing the medical examination, the SDM added.

Care taker Narwal said all the records of the orphanage were found complete. The administration had not given any notice for producing records earlier, and had also not given any notice about the shifting of children from the orphanage, he added.
