Two access Aadhaar system with rubber thumb impression

The police have registered a case of fraud against two persons for indulging in fraudulent Aadhaar enrolment. The accused were found to be illegally accessing the Aadhaar system with the help of a rubber thumb impression of an authorised operator in Uklana town of the district.

A UIDAI team from the regional centre in Chandigarh raided the Common Service Centre (CSC) being run in a shop outside the sub-tehsil office in Uklana town yesterday. The team found unauthorised persons scanning the Aadhaar applications.

The UIDAI complaint lodged with the police revealed that the CSC was being run by an authorised Aadhar operator Rakesh, who was not present at the centre. Two youths identified as Sonu, a resident of Surewala village, and Ankit Kundu, a resident of Bithmara village, were operating the Aadhaar system by using a rubber thumb impression of another authorised person.

Sonu had got a rubber finger print of an operator named Surender, fabricated. The operator is from Sangrur district of Punjab.

The UIDAI officials found that Ankit had carried out Aadhaar applications by using the same rubber thumb impression on Thursday in the up tehsil office in the town, though he is not an authorised Aadhar operator.

The UIDAI also urged the police to investigate the role of authorised Aadhaar operators namely Rakesh and Surender in the matter.

The Uklana police registered a case under Sections Section 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act against the two persons. The Uklana police said they had started investigation and would arrest the accused soon.
