Undertrial ends life

AMBALA: An undertrial allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a pipe in the toilet of his cell in the Central Jail at Ambala City on Saturday.

An undertrial allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a pipe in the toilet of his cell in the Central Jail at Ambala City on Saturday. He has been identified as Bhupinder Singh (30), a resident of Nohni village in Mullana.

Around 1 pm today, Bhupinder, an accused in an NDPS case, was found hanging from the toilet pipe by other jail inmates and they informed the authorities. He used a piece of cloth to commit suicide.

SP Abhishek Jorwal said, “An undertrial has committed suicide. He was in jail in an NDPS case. A magisterial inquiry has been initiated”.

This is the second suicide in the Central Jail in the last 20 days. On September 3, dera follower Ravinder Kumar (27), a resident of Saharanpur, had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ventilation window in the toilet of the jail cell. He was arrested in Panchkula on August 25 for allegedly indulging in arson and was brought to the Ambala City jail on August 27.
