Health Minister Anil Vij today ordered a vigilance inquiry against kabaddi players Manjit Chillar and Rakesh Kumar from Delhi for allegedly furnishing fake domicile certificates to receive cash awards.

He also ordered an inquiry against officials who had prepared the certificates.

The players had received cash awards (Rs 2 crore each in September last year) for their achievements in Asian Games 2014 on the basis of fake documents that mentioned they were residents of Jhajjar district.

“The Sports Department was asked to inquire into a complaint against the players. It found the players used fake certificates to receive awards. Manjit had shown himself as a Delhi resident while receiving the Arjuna Award and at the time of receiving a cash award in Haryana, he had shown himself as a Haryana resident. Rakesh’s case is no different,” the Sports Minister said.

The minister said, “The cash awards were for Haryana players only. Both players had produced fake domicile certificates to get the awards. The money will be taken back from them.”
