A 13-member committee constituted by the Food and Civil Supplies Department has found 36,426 bags of wheat missing from godowns in Jundla and Karnal.
After investigating into the matter, the committee recommended the department to register a case against Ravinder Malik, District Food and Supply Controller (DFSC) earlier posted in Karnal and, now, in Chandigarh, and inspector Surinder Hooda.
“The police yesterday booked Malik and Hooda under Sections 409 and 420 of the IPC. The investigation underway to ascertain the involvement of the accused and other officials of the department,” said Kamaldeep Rana, SHO, Sadar police station.
Malik claimed he was implicated. “I left the charge in September 2014 and. at present, posted at Chandigarh,” he said.
In his complaint, the Deputy Director (Storage) told the police the committee, in its report submitted to the department on January 6 and 9, indicated a foul play at the godowns.
The committee found 23,807 bags missing from the Jundla godown. There should have been 4,01,247 bags for 2013-14 and 2014-15, said Sadar police station SHO Kamaldeep Rana.
In all, 12,619 bags of wheat were found missing from the Karnal godown. The members of the committee told the police there should have been 9,88,587 bags, the SHO said.
