Residents of Raipur village in the district’s Chhachhrauli block have set an example of brotherhood and communal harmony by electing the sarpanch and all panches unanimously.

Sushil Kumar (25), who has cleared M.Com, has been made the sarpanch. Of the six panches, three are women.

Kumar said Raipur gram panchayat was recently carved out of Damoli panchayat. “It would have been the first panchayat election for our village. Gurjars and Brahmins, the two dominant communities in the village, decided they will choose the panchayat unanimously to promote brotherhood,” he said, adding villagers decided every decision would be taken unanimously in public interest.” Kumar said he left his private job to work among his native villagers for the all-round development of Raipur. “Every decision will be taken after consulting all six panches and villagers.”

District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) Gagandeep Singh said that in Chhachhrauli block, 607 panches out of 1,025 panches had been elected unanimously. In Jagadhri, 269 out of 551 panches have been elected without a contest. He said Chhachhrauli and Jagadhri would go to polls on January 10.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer SS Phulia has appointed 27 duty magistrates and 36 supervisors for the smooth conduct of elections in the two blocks.

BC elected sarpanch unopposed on general seat

Sonepat: Residents of Badhkhalsa village have unanimously elected Hari Chand Prajapat from a Backward Class as the sarpanch. The post of sarpanch in the Jat-dominated village is for a candidate from the general category.

The decision was taken during a meeting in the village today. The meeting also elected the entire panchayat and a member of the Rai Block Samiti from ward number 21 unanimously.

Badhkhalsa resident Virender Singh, state general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, told the media the villagers had set an example of social amity by unanimously accepting Prajapat as the sarpanch. The villagers assured Prajapat, who belongs to the Kumhar community, of cooperation in carrying out development works.
