Woman consumes poison over ‘police inaction’, dies

KARNAL: Depressed over alleged police inaction on her complaint against her husband, a woman of district’s Uncha Samana village consumed poison near the SP office in the Mini-Secretariat today.

Depressed over alleged police inaction on her complaint against her husband, a woman of district’s Uncha Samana village consumed poison near the SP office in the Mini-Secretariat today.

The victim is identified as Shivani (32). She was admitted to Amritdhara Hospital here where she later died.

“We came here to meet the SP regarding the complaint, but he was not in his office. Following which, my mother consumed some poisonous substance,” said Vishal, victim’s son.

He alleged his father used to beat up his mother and was in an illicit relationship with another woman in Karnal.

“My mother had filed a complaint regarding the issue on May 2, but the police started harassing her,” he maintained.

Raj Kumar, Civil Lines SHO, said the police was probing the incident.

Nitika Gehlawat, ASP, said she had filed a complaint on Tuesday against Shivani’s husband, inquiry on which was underway.

“During the investigation, it came to light that Shivani had some fake documents of the police department and she used to impersonate as a police official,” the ASP maintained.

She said Shivani had registered a fake rape case in Panchkula, following which she was sentenced to imprisonment for one year in Ambala.
