Woman drowns, 2 kids missing

Karnal, June 17

One woman drowned and two children were reported missing after the car they were travelling in fell into the augmentation canal near Ranwar village in Karnal this evening.

They were on their way to their hometown Chausana in Uttar Pradesh after meeting their relatives in Ganjogarhi village in Karnal district when the accident took place.

Two members of the family had a narrow escape. Faizan, his wife Amir Bano, sister-in-law Amir Fatima, three-year-old daughter Aksha and one-and-a-half-year-old son Abu Bakar were travelling in the car.

The car fell into the canal when they neared Ranwar village. Fatima jumped out of the car while Faizan swam to safety.

The police fished out the car along with Bano’s body. Efforts were on to trace the two children till the time of filing of this report.

Madhuban SHO Gaurav Punia and Sadar SHO Lalit Kumar led the search operations. Gharaunda MLA and Hafed chairman Harvinder Kalyan reached the spot.
