The police have registered a case in connection with the rape of a 27-year-old married woman in a village here. The accused is yet to be arrested.

According to the complaint lodged with the police, the accused identified as Sanjay, who resides in the victim’s neighbourhood, had come to her house on Monday on some pretext.

Finding her alone, he forced himself on her and assaulted her sexually before fleeing from there.

He also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone, it is claimed.

Both the accused and the victim are married and have known each other for the past few years. “We have registered a case under Section 450 (trespassing with criminal intent), 506, 376 and 34 of the IPC,” said ASI Shobha, the investigating official. She said that besides the main accused, another person named Yudhister is also reported to be involved.

Meanwhile in another case, the police have arrested a woman identified as Premwati for the murder of her mother-in-law. Premwati is allegedly involved in the murder of Bishan Devi (60) which took place on August 11 at Allika village of the district, said the police. Another accused, identified as Narender of the same village, has already been nabbed by the police.
