Scores of irate pregnant women blocked the road outside Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Hospital (KCGMCH), demanding that ante-natal ultrasound should be made continued.
The test is not being continued since the lone radiologist of the hospital is on long leave.
Several such women had approached DC J Ganesan yesterday at the mini- secretariat and were reportedly assured by the authorities that the facility would be provided to them. But when they reached the hospital this morning no one was available for the test.
Babli, a protestor, told that if the radiologist is on leave then it was the duty of the authorities to make alternative arrangements. Instead, the authorities have been harassing them.
Similarly, Seema and Santosh alleged that the government claims that it provides all medical facilities to the pregnant woman free of cost but they were forced to go to private hospitals and pay hefty fees.
Civil Line SHO Parteek Kumar pacified them. After the assurance of the SHO the protestors lifted the blockade but raised slogans outside the office of Deputy Medical Superintendent.
