Y’nagar residents to get piped cooking gas soon

Residents of Jagadhri, Bilaspur and Chhachhrauli towns in the district will soon get piped natural gas (PNG) for cooking.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has been authorised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board to set up city gas distribution (CGD) network in the district.

Vijay Duggal, Chief General Manager, BPCL, said a ‘bhumi pujan’ was held in sector-17 of HUDA in Jagadhri today to start the CGD network.

“The Central Government is encouraging and promoting the use of environment-friendly PNG and compressed natural gas (CNG) in the urban and semi-urban areas. Households, industrial units, commercial establishments and automotive consumers in the district will be benefitted as the natural gas is more economical, environment-friendly and it is more convenient to use,” said Duggal.

He said that under the CGD network, a city gas station (CGS) would be set up to cater to the PNG demand of the domestic, commercial and industrial customers and also provide CNG to the automotive segment.

“The PNG is a safe cooking fuel as it is lighter than air,” said Duggal.

He said besides the domestic PNG, industrial and commercial PNG (for hotels, restaurants etc) would also be provided in the district.

Jagadhri SDM Bharat Bhushan Kaushik said that the project would bring prosperity and economic development in the area.

“BPCL is committed to providing environment-friendly fuel options to the consumers of the district. Natural gas will also give a boost to the industrial sector of Yamunanagar,” said Kaushik.

Municipal Commissioner Girish Arora, Senior Deputy Mayor Pawan Bittu, District Food and Supply Controller Surender Singh and Umesh Gautam, Deputy General Manager, BPLC, were among others present on the occasion.
