A 27-year-old youth was killed while another was injured as five to six assailants stabbed them on the Ranwar road late last night. Deceased Amit Kumar and injured Sanjay were residents of Vikas Colony on the Ranwar road. Amit was a fruit vendor in the new vegetable market in the city. Old enmity is said to be reason behind the murder.

Enraged over the murder, Amit’s family members, relatives and friends created a ruckus outside the forensic department of the hospital and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They also demanded an arms licence for the bereaved family members citing threat as one of their relatives was also killed earlier over an old enmity.

DSP Rajiv Kumar and SHO, Sadar, Manoj Kumar tried to pacify them but they remained adamant on their demands. Later they met SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, who assured them of early arrest of the accused.

Amit’s cousin Rajesh alleged that six persons belonging to Ranwar village stabbed to death Amit and injured his friend Sanjay.

“We have registered a case against six persons under Sections 302, 307, 506 of the IPC and various sections of the Arms Act. Efforts are being made to nab them,” said Manoj Kumar, SHO, Sadar.
