Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday said the endeavour of his regime was to lay emphasis on strengthening the existing institutions instead of opening the new ones.

At the inauguration of the “Interventional Radiology Outreach” programme organised by the Department of Radio-Diagnosis, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Thakur said: “The state government has filled 262 posts of doctor through walk-in interviews and 200 posts will be filled through the State Public Service Commission so as to meet the shortage of doctors in health institutions, particularly in rural and far-flung areas of the state,” he stated.

Thakur said the IGMC was a premier health institution and the government was committed to strengthening it with advanced facilities and latest equipment. A Rs 9-crore digital subtraction angiography machine was being installed in the hospital.

The Chief Minister said staff would be hired to make the Rs 23-crore linear acculator functional, which had been lying unused at Tanda medical college. A similar machine would be installed at the IGMC as soon as the new building was available.

Thakur said the state government was committed to filling the posts of doctor and paramedical staff on priority. He also urged doctors to work with zeal and compassion to provide best healthcare to the people. Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj and Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar were also present on the occasion.
