28 die as bus falls into gorge in Rampur

SHIMLA: Twenty-eight persons, including nine women and a child, were killed while 10 sustained injuries when a private bus (HP-25-B-0335) they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Khaneri in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, 140 km from here, this morning.

Shimla, July 20

Twenty-eight persons, including nine women and a child, were killed while 10 sustained injuries when a private bus (HP-25-B-0335) they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Khaneri in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, 140 km from here, this morning.

The bus, carrying 38 passengers, was on its way from Reckong Peo (Kinnaur) to Nauni (Solan). Four of the seriously injured have been referred to the IGMC.

An immediate relief of Rs 10,000 has been given to every injured and relatives of identified deceased. Twelve of those killed were from Kinnaur, six from Shimla, three from Kullu, one from Hamirpur and six from Jammu (Kathua). Some passengers said the accident occurred due to bursting of a tyre. The Rampur SDM will conduct a probe. — TNS
