Shimla, June 18

Trapped for nearly 39 hours, four workers of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) were rescued from a tunnel of the Arun-III hydropower project being executed by the company in Nepal on Sunday.

According to information, following a massive landslide around 8.30 pm on June 15, the tunnel got blocked by boulders and muck.

Four workers of SJVNL’s contractor firm were engaged in drilling work when they got trapped inside the tunnel.

Heavy rain that continued for two days hampered the rescue operation.

SJVNL engineers immediately pressed into service breakers and drilled a hole inside the tunnel. The workers were safely rescued around 11 am on  Sunday, a SJVNL spokesperson said.

A team of doctors examined them and found them healthy and fit.

CMD, SJVN,  Nand Lal Sharma expressed his gratitude to the local public for extending help in the rescue operation.
