5,000 fishes rescued from polluted Rewalsar Lake

After the death of a large number of fishes in the Rewalsar Lake, the district administration today sprung into action. It drained the water of the lake with the help of pumps and put fresh water to maintain the oxygen level in the lake water.

Today also tonnes of dead fishes were taken out from the lake. According to official data, around 20 tonnes of fishes have died in two days.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Balh, Sidharth Acharya today visited the spot along with other officials and started the process to shift the remaining fishes at another place. Around 5,000 fishes were put into the BSL canal.

Acharya said the oxygen level was quite low in the lake water, which caused the death of fishes in such a large scale. Today oxygen was released in the lake besides putting fresh water to maintain the oxygen level in the lake water for the existence of water creatures.

“Local shopkeepers were asked to stop selling fish feed to visitors and stop feeding them for the next few days to improve poor condition of the lake,” he added.

“The dead fishes were disposed of in the presence of medical experts to avoid any health hazard for those living in the area,” he added.
