Shimla, June 26
Seven people, including four women, were killed and five others suffered serious injuries when the Balero Camper they were travelling in rolled into a 200-metre-deep gorge between Antrawlee and Guma, near Nerwa in Shimla district, 140 km from here, on Sunday night.
All occupants of the vehicle hailed from Shillai in Sirmaur district and were returning after paying obeisance at Churdhar shrine.
Sources said Kapil (27), son of Kalyan Singh, lost control while negotiating a sharp curve.
The deceased were identified as Sandhi Devi (43), wife of Kalyan, and their daughters Sushma (28), Nisha (25) and Ravina (21) and son Kailash (22); Gulab Singh (41), and Shivani (15); Deputy Commissioner Rohan Chand Thakur said.
The police rushed to the spot. All seven bodies were recovered and the injured were rushed to civil hospital at Nerwa and later referred to IGMC, Shimla. The injured were Kapil, Kalyan Singh, Dimple, Sakshi and Raveena.
An immediate relief of Rs 50,000 has been given to the families of the deceased and Rs 5,000 to the injured. A case has been registered and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the accident, police said.
