Shimla, January 25

As many as 89,000 new voters have been added to the voters’ list in the state this year, while 54,000 fake voters have been deleted in the state. This was stated by state Election Commissioner TG Negi here today on the occasion of National Voters’ Day.

Addressing a gathering, Negi said a new voters’ list would prepared in the state.

He honoured Shimla DC Dinesh Malhotra, Lahaul Spiti DC Bir Singh and Kinnaur DC DD Sharma. Assistant electoral officers Rajiv Kumar, JC Negi, Vinay Modi were also honoured on the occasion. Bharat Bhushan, Karam Chand Verma, Adarsha Jamalta, Nand Lal, Krishan Chand, Seema, Rajinder Gautam and Rajpal were felicitated for preparing voter lists in the districts.

He also honoured Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Rai, who was the Mandi ADM, for creating awareness among voters. He also honoured mediapersons and NGOs.

State electoral officer Narender Chauhan urged the youth to get themselves enrolled in the voters’ list.

 

First-time electors get Identity cards

Chamba: National Voters' Day was observed at the Darbar Hall of the government postgraduate degree college here today.

A function was held under the aegis of the state election department.

Addressing a gathering, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Shubh Karan Singh underscored the need for bringing awareness among the voters to strengthen the democratic system.

He exhorted the youth to exercise their franchise.

He handed over voter identity cards to those who had been enrolled in the voters' lists for the first time. A video clip of a message from Chief Election Commissioner of India HS Brahma was also screened in the hall.

Later, children from local schools presented a cultural programme.

Dalhousie: National Voters' Day was observed in Dalhousie today. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) appealed to the people to exercise their franchise without any prejudice. He also gave away voter identity cards to newly enrolled voters.

Process of enrolment in electoral rolls eased: DC

Kullu: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has eased the process of registration and correction of details of the electoral rolls.

Rakesh Kanwar, District Election Officer and Kullu Deputy Commissioner said this while addressing a gathering during the National Voters’ Day celebrations at Dev Sadan here today.

He said this year’s theme of the ECI was “Easy Registration, Easy Correction” and the process of enrolment had been simplified. He said booth level officers (BLOs) played a major role in correction and new enrolments to the electoral rolls.

He said every vote was significant in a democratic system and every voter should exercise this right. He said the percentage of polling had surged in the recent past and political scenarios had changed because of awareness of voters. BLOs showing outstanding performance during the voter registration process were awarded by the DC. He also imparted the oath of the ECI and urged people to make full use of this year’s theme.
