To implement the order of the High Court to remove stray animals from roads and public places and providing them shelter by the end of this month, the district administration recently convened a meeting of the newly constituted Gausadan Coordination Committee.

Sudesh Mokhta, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kangra, presided over the meeting. The pradhans and zila parishad members of the Nagrota Surian and Fatehpur development block were also present in the meeting.

Mohan Dutt Sharma, SDM-cum-chairman of the committee, said the administration had identified three places at Maira, Khabbal and Bherta, where the committee had proposed to construct sheds for stray cattle.

“As many as 1,000 stray cattle in the subdivision have been estimated by the committee and the administration has received Rs 56 lakh from the zila parishad, Kangra, for providing shelter to stray cattle,” he added.

Sharma said the committee was also looking for more land at Nagrota Surian and Kotla for constructing animal shelters.

He exhorted the representatives of the Panchayati Raj institutions for extending financial assistance to the committee for the purpose.

Meanwhile, Mokhta appealed to the local gram panchayats for undertaking the registration of domestic animals with the assistance of field staff of the Animal Husbandry Department, so that penalty could be imposed to the defaulters for abandoning their animals in public places.
