Shimla, April 22

Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Rohan Chand Thakur yesterday banned the holding of protests and raising of slogans within a 100-m radius of the Auckland House School campus for two months by imposing Section 144 CrPC. The action was taken in view of the CITU-led protest against the school management for removing 28 employees.

The DC imposed Section 144 which meant assembly of more than five persons, staging protests, raising slogans and taking out rallies within a 100-m radius of the school could not be allowed.

He said this was done to maintain peace and law and order around the school campus.

This order would not be applicable in case of movement of police and military and marriage procession around the campus, the DC clarified.

The CITU had been staging a protest in front of the school campus for the past few days, seeking reinstatement of removed 28 employees and a rollback of the hike in school fee.

On the other hand, the order came as a big relief to the school, including students. The school management had termed the CITU’s demands unjustified claiming that the dispute was pending in the labour court as they were not school employees.
