Angered at the failure of the state government to implement development projects in the Jaswan Pragpur Assembly segment, BJP workers, led by MLA Vikram Thakur, today held a protest dharna and demonstration at tehsil headquarters Rakkar and raised anti-government slogans on the tehsil premises.

Vikram Thakur while addressing protesters made a frontal attack on Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for victimising his constituency and depriving it of development only because it was being represented by the BJP.

He warned the state government that if it understood the language of dharnas and protests, then people of his constituency were ready to pass on their grievances to the government in that language only.

The MLA said during the last two and a half years of Congress rule, road conditions, health, education and other basic amenities were in a shambles. It was unfortunate that people visiting government offices had to face the wrath of officials.

He said the Rakkar tehsil office was functioning without officers from tehsildar to data operator. Health centres were without doctors and schools without the required number of teachers. Under these circumstances, people had no option but to protest to wake up the government from its deep slumber.

Vikram said in the Dadaseba area work on roads was initiated only after the protests. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in a bid to save his chair had become insensitive to the problems of the public.

The authorities had deployed police personnel at Rakkar to maintain law and order. The demonstration culminated with an assurance by SDM, Dehra, MS Thakur that work on different projects would start within a fortnight.
