The Congress today accused the BJP of trying to use pressure tactics to destabilise the democratically elected Congress government in the state and dishonour the mandate given by the people, which indicates its disregard towards the democracy.

In a statement issued here today, Harsh Mahajan, Chairman, HP Co-Operative Bank, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman, HP Pollution Control Board, and Harish Janartha, Vice-Chairman, HP Tourism Development Corporation, termed the statement of BJP leader and former minister Jai Ram Thakur a pressure tactic.

They said Union Health Minister JP Nadda had raised the issue and demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister and now Thakur had adopted the same line which showed that he was pressurised from some other coterie of the BJP to issue such statements.

“Perhaps, it may be the new emerging group of the BJP who are wanting to remain in the limelight so that they become the centrestage,” they remarked.

They said it was a small group within the BJP with vested interest which were indulging in malicious propaganda against the Chief Minister. Advising the BJP to set its own house in order, they said it was a divided lot and infighting in their organisational elections had come to the fore.

“The BJP is facing a crisis of political identity with bitter internal fighting for supremacy,” they said. They added that the BJP was trying to divert public attention from the misdeeds of its leaders at the national level and in various states who were involved in various scams and were making false cases against their political opponents.

They said it was surprising that three central agencies had started investigations in one single case pertaining to the Income Tax returns of Virbhadra Singh which was already before the Income Tax Department and appellate authorities. The overindulgence of various investigating agencies in a single case indicated that the agencies were under tremendous political pressure.

They said after carrying out CBI raids on the premises of the Chief Minister on the day of the marriage of his daughter, the Enforcement Directorate had carried out raids on the premises of the associates of Virbhadra Singh and now the ED had issued summons to the Chief Minister which was politically motivated.
