Book fairs to be held in six districts

SHIMLA: With a view to developing reading habits and strengthening school libraries, especially in rural areas, book fairs will be organised under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in six selected places.

With a view to developing reading habits and strengthening school libraries, especially in rural areas, book fairs will be organised under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in six selected places.

A provision of Rs 12 lakh has been made by the project approval board and Rs 2 lakh would be provided for exhibition at each venue. The book fairs will be organised at Theog (Shimla), Kandaghat (Solan), Nagrota Bagwan (Kangra), Delahan (Una), Sundernagar (Mandi) and Kullu and 30 students each from 15 schools will be given exposure during the fair. Each school has been provided Rs 5,000 for purchasing informative books.

The participation of maximum publishers will be ensured for organising the fair so that maximum books are displayed and available for purchasing by students and teachers and a minimum 25 per cent discount will be allowed by the publishers on the books sold during the fair.

“A fee of Rs 500 is mandatory for publishers and only registered publishers will be allowed to participate in the fair.
