Shimla, July 23

A team of the CBI today started investigation in the twin cases of rape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai and custodial death of an accused Suraj.

The team will collect the evidence from the spot of crime. The CBI yesterday registered FIRs in the two cases and the team was in Shimla. The CBI team reportedly held discussions with the state police regarding the case.

Sources said the CBI team was also taking cognizance of media reports and statements reportedly given by the relatives of the victim and accused. The body of the accused Suraj, who was killed in the police lockup in Kotkhai, is still in the mortuary at the IGMC.

Former Chief Minister PK Dhumal said “insensitive” attitude of the state government towards the case drew anger of the masses. The government was committing mistake time and again and the latest blunder was naming the upgraded school in Dhar Tarjunu (Talli) in the victim’s real name.

In an informal chat with mediapersons at the Dalit Swabhiman Sammalen, he said as per the directions of the Supreme Court, the name of the rape victim should not be made public and it would have been better if the government had named the school in the name of Gudiya, not the real name of the victim.
