The CBI will reinvestigate the graft case against Joint Secretary, Himachal Pradesh Industries Department, Tilak Raj Sharma who has been accused of receiving Rs 5-lakh bribe.
The HP Government had denied permission to try Sharma. He had filed a discharge application, to which the CBI filed its reply and sought time to reinvestigate the matter. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for February 17, 2018.
The CBI said now the matter was between the prosecution and the court, and the discharge plea was invalid. The CBI would reinvestigate the case to try Sharma and bring more facts to light. The CBI also said in case any officer was suspended, transferred or terminated from services, then no prosecution sanction was required to prosecute him.
According to the defence counsel, Sharma did not have the power to allow any subsidy, nor was he a member of any such committee. Also, the bribe amount was not recovered from Sharma but the other accused.
