Dharamsala, February 22
The college teachers of the state have demanded the implementation of minimum pay scales as recommended by the UGC for teachers working in government colleges. The teachers have also demanded that their retirement age should be increased to 65 years as per the recommendations of the UGC.
The meeting of the Himachal Government College Professors Association, Government College Dharamsala unit, was organised under the chairmanship of President Dr Vikram Shri Vats. In the meeting, discussions were held regarding participation in the General House to be organised at the Government College, Mandi. In the meeting, a resolution was passed to fulfil the long-pending demands of the teachers and sent it to the state executive.
The college teachers have demanded in the resolution passed today that the increment of MPhil and PhD degree holders, which was stopped after 2014, to be restored. The college teachers also demanded that the professors working on contract should be provided minimum salary as per the UGC rules.
As per the rules, the retirement age of college professors should be increased to 65 years. Recently, Uttarakhand government has also issued a notification in this regard, the college teachers have demanded.
Addressing the meeting, unit president Dr Vikram Vats said that Himachal Government College Teachers Association (HGCTA) has always been lobbying to fulfil the demands of college professors. The state executive should be supported by every local unit to vigorously raise the demands pending before the Government. Dr Naresh Sharma, Dr Pravesh Gill and Dr Gaurav Mahajan also expressed their views in the meeting.
Unit General Secretary Dr Ashish Ranjan appealed the teachers to attend the state-level convention to be held in Mandi.
