Cloudburst damages shops, NH in Chamba

Three shops were destroyed when a flooded nullah, boulders and debris caused devastation in the Chahla panchayat of Chamba district following a cloudburst yesterday.

Consequently, the Chamba-Pathankot national highway was blocked due to debris of landslips.

The reports revealed that heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm caused extensive damage to agricultural fields at Rajnagar in the district.

A woman died in Dalhousie when a gate collapsed due to hurricane and rain and hit her. She has been identified as Leela, an anganwari worker. Sudesh Mokhta, Chamba DC, pressed the officials into action at the affected site for carrying out relief and rescue operations.

The Chamba-Pathankot national highway was restored immediately last evening. —OC
