Families rendered homeless as houses collapse in Nurpur village

NURPUR: Kucha houses of Subash Chand and Uttam Chand at Aundh village, near here, collapsed after yesterday’s torrential rain rendering the families roofless, reports said.

Kucha houses of Subash Chand and Uttam Chand at Aundh village, near here, collapsed after yesterday’s torrential rain rendering the families roofless, reports said. The administration provided them water-proof sheets for use as makeshift dwellings.

SDM Rakesh Prajapti said their damages were being assessed by field revenue department staff and financial assistance as per the existing relief manual would be released on Monday.

The SDM said losses to private properties in the whole sub division were being assessed. He advised people not to venture near khuds and seasonal rivulets during the rain. Pradhans of all gram panchayats have been sent advisory message besides putting all government departments on alert keeping in view rain fury in the low-lying areas.

Water-logging in the low-lying villages in Indora and Mand areas has become a major problem for the inhabitants.

The accumulated water has not only restricted the movement of people but also caused extensive damage to private property in the area.

Kandrori village is without power and water supply for the past 48 hours which has made the life of the locals miserable. The people are apprehending breakout of diseases from stagnating water of nullahs and seasonal rivulets.

Murid Hussain, zila parishad member, has demanded compensation for extensive crop loss and damage to private house holdings in Mand area.
