Mandi, May 3

ITBP personnel arrested one person on suspicion of spying at the Lepcha check post in the Spiti valley near the Tibet border yesterday.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed his name as Mohammad Musharf Hussain of Thane in Mumbai. However, no identity proof was found from his possession, according to official sources.

One mobile phone, some food stuff, the map of India and a SIM of mobile phone was found crushed. The ITBP officials later handed over the accused to the local police at Kaza for further investigation.

Prima facie, the accused seemed to be a Bangladeshi national and the police were interrogating him to collect the detailed information.

However, the accused was not conversant with the Hindi or English language. Rather, he spoke in local dialect, due to which the police were facing difficulty in collecting the details.

When contacted, Kaza DSP Mukesh Kumar said, “I have sent a team of police personnel to the spot to investigate the matter but due to a poor communication system in the border area there was no further update.”

The police have registered a case under Sections 123 and 124-A, IPC, against him.
