Shimla, February 19

The Congress today hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for their silence on the scam in Punjab National Bank (PNB) which had shattered the faith of people even in government banks.

In a statement issued here today, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) general secretary Naresh Chauhan said being the Finance Minister it was Jaitley’s moral responsibility to tell people what steps were being taken to bring the culprits to book. “The PM has always studied silence on all sensitive matters that concern the nation and now Jaitley too seems to be toeing the same line, which is unfortunate,” he remarked.

He said the manner in which Nirav Modi managed to flee the country after committing such a big fraud clearly indicated the loopholes in the system. “There is an atmosphere of complete uncertainty in the economy and nobody is coming forward to explain the situation and the steps being taken to avert such scams in future,” he said.

Chauhan said when it came to demonetisation, both PM and Jaitley had made tall claims and issued statements every day. – TNS
