Congress to have 40 star campaigners

SHIMLA: AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu will be star campaigners for the ruling Congress for the Assembly polls in Himachal.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu will be star campaigners for the ruling Congress for the Assembly polls in Himachal.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) today issued a list of 40 star campaigners, including both Central as well as state leaders. Leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Gulam Nabi Azad, Raj Babbar and Kumari Seilja are expected to campaign for the Congress nominees in the state.

Names of some of the former CMs — Harish Rawat (Uttarakhand), Sheila Dixit (Delhi) and Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Haryana) — also figure in the list. Besides the state leaders, the leaders, who will give maximum time to the electioneering in the state are from Punjab and Haryana. These leaders are Manpreet Badal, Ashok Tanwar, Pratap Singh Bajwa and Randeep Surjewala.

Amongst the state leaders it is Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who is expected to travel extensively all over the state.
