The police today arrested four persons from Uttarkashi on the charge of being members of a gang of inter-state drug suppliers.
The accused were nabbed near the Kala Amb barrier with 2.750 kg opium hidden in a truck. They have been identified as Raju (27), Shankar Thapa (25), Naveen(28) and Bishen Singh (21).
Sirmaur SP Souyma Sambasivan said the accused had been supplying drugs to various states such as Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttrakhand and Chandigarh since the past several months.
The police had a tip-off about the truck carrying opium and the checking by a team of the Special Investigating Unit led to the recovery of the drug. The Opium seized values around Rs 10 lakh. The SP said the police had been following the movement of drugs in the belt for the past two months and this was the third gang to be busted. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the accused.
