Manali, July 24

An Israeli woman was allegedly gang-raped near Manali today.

The woman, along with her friend, registered a complaint at the Manali police station.

Padam Chand, Superintendent of Police, Kullu, said the woman took a lift in a vehicle to travel to Kaza in the Spiti valley. She alleged that two of the six occupants of the vehicle raped her.

He said the victim’s medical examination had been conducted and the report had been sent to Mandi for expert opinion. “We are examining the CCTV footage of the area and a hunt is on to nab the accused,” he said. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC.

This is not the first instance of a foreign tourist being raped in Manali. On June 4, 2013, an American woman was gang-raped by three persons.
