BJP MLA from Darang Jawahar Thakur was allegedly thrashed by his uncle Jyoti Prakash and the latter’s sons during a local fair on Tuesday evening.

The MLA was at Takoli village to attend the fair when a dispute arose between the two families on the sitting arrangement of a deity. In a fit of rage, Jyoti Prakash and his sons allegedly thrashed the MLA.

The MLA later lodged a complaint against his uncle and two cousins. However, Jyoti Prakash alleged that the MLA had threatened them with dire consequences.

According to sources, the families are involved in a property dispute. Jyoti Prakash is a Congress worker and a staunch supporter of former Health Minister and senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur. Jawahar Thakur had defeated  Kaul Singh in the last Assembly elections.

DSP, Padhar, Madankant said a case had been registered in this regard.

He said Jyoti Prakash had also submitted a complaint against the MLA and investigations were on.
