Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal kickstarted his election campaign from Sujanpur constituency today. Dhumal won the 2012 Vidhan Sabha election from Hamirpur constituency and now has decided to contest from Sujanpur following party directives.

Speaking to The tribune on the change of constituency, Dhumal said this was done to ensure win in all five segments of the district. The constituency was represented by Narender Thakur, BJP MLA, who defeated the Congress candidate Anita Rana in the bye election in 2014 by margin of 538 votes. The BJP has swapped the candidates in Hamirpur and Sujanpur.

Following this, Narender Thakur would contest from Hamirpur who had also started working in the constituency. Dhumal said that the BJP would finalise the list of candidates for the state Assembly by evening. Speaking on the leadership issue, Dhumal asserted that party would take a decision at the right time.

He said that most of the candidates had been finalised and a few would be cleared by the Central election committee soon. He said that the BJP would form the government as the people of the state had made up their mind to change the non-performing government in the state.

Dhumal said the Congress government had betrayed the people of the state and development had come to a halt in the state. The crime in the state was at peak and women were living in fear.

Dhumal was confident that the people would vote against crime and corruption in the state.

He said the state government was under debt of over Rs 50,000 crore. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh always ignored Hamirpur, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given new pace to the development of the country. Dhumal said that there would be over 40 star campaigners in the state to ensue the victory of the party.

Party wanted me to leave Hamirpur, says ex-CM

“The BJP leadership wanted me to contest from Sujanpur and I have honoured its decision,” said former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal here today while addressing workers of the Hamirpur BJP mandal.

He asked workers to support BJP candidate Narender Thakur with same zeal. He said sometime hard decisions were needed in the interests of the party and every worker should honour it.

He was thankful to all workers of the constituency who had shown love and affection to him.
