UNA, MAY 23
Una Sadar unit of the BJP today passed a resolution, seeking the state government to immediately address the pending issues at the district hospital. At a meeting organized at Ambedkar Bhawan in Behdala village where party state president and MLA Satpal Singh Satti was present, the block party leadership passed a resolution which will be sent to the state government through the Deputy Commissioner.
A young pregnant woman had died at the Una district hospital on Sunday night amid allegations of negligence by the hospital staff. There is also a growing resentment among the local residents that the hospital was functioning as a mere referral centre for incoming patients to higher health institutions.
At the meeting, Satti charged that the hospital was facing severe shortage of specialist doctors besides paramedical staff, adding that the biggest health institution in the district lacked even an orthopedic surgeon.
He added that shortage of lab technicians, staff nurses, pharmacists and computer operators was hampering the normal work at the hospital. He said since the admissions at the hospital exceeded the number of available beds, the Chief Minister had announced additional 100 beds for patients at the hospital about two years ago. However, he pointed out that no headway had been made since the announcement.
