Drug menace: Meeting with Punjab SPs soon

NURPUR: The Kangra police is all set to formulate a joint strategy to curb drug menace in border areas of the district, especially in the Nurpur and Indora subdivisions, where drug trafficking has assumed alarming proportions in connivance with the drug mafia of the neighbouring Punjab.

The Kangra police is all set to formulate a joint strategy to curb drug menace in border areas of the district, especially in the Nurpur and Indora subdivisions, where drug trafficking has assumed alarming proportions in connivance with the drug mafia of the neighbouring Punjab.

Superintendent of Police, Kangra, Santosh Patial, who visited police stations at Indora and Nurpur recently, told The Tribune that the district police would shortly convene a meeting with the SPs of Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur districts of the neighboring Punjab and formulate a joint strategy to initiate special campaign against drug trafficking in the border areas of Kangra district.

Patial, who interacted with the police personnel deployed in these police stations of the border areas in lower Kangra district first time after assuming the charge, asserted that the police had been facing challenges of drug peddling and illegal mining in the border areas and police force would be activated to meet these challenges.

The SP admitted rise in road mishaps in the district.

“In order to check increasing road accidents the district police will launch three-point special drive in the district. Engineering component will consist of improving poor road condition and identifying black spots on the roads and highways in coordination with the Public Works Department. Under the education component, an awareness campaign would be launched to educate youngsters about road sense and traffic rules and in Enforcement component the police would enforce traffic rules under the Motor Vehicle Act and take action against the violators,” he told.

Talking about illegal mining activities going on in the border areas of the state, the SP said that stern action would be taken against those indulging in illegal mining activities.
