MANDI: Members of the Himalayan Ex-servicemen Welfare Association paid homage to Major Arun Sharma on his 14th death anniversary today.

Members of the Himalayan Ex-servicemen Welfare Association paid homage to Major Arun Sharma on his 14th death anniversary today. The function was held at Nalti Parnal in Bilaspur district. He belonged to Kulwadi village in Ghumarwin tehsil of Bilaspur district.

Major Arun Sharma laid down his life fighting insurgents in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on December 23, 2003. He was posted with 5 Engineer Regiment of the Army.

Captain (retd) Jagdish Chand Verma said a two-minute silence was observed in the memory of the martyr at the function attended by ex-servicemen of Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Mandi districts. The function was attended by Brigadier SK Verma (Retd), Chairman of Directorate Himachal Pradesh ESM Hamirpur.

He said that a delegation led by Subedar Chander Prakash was also sent from Major Arun Sharma’s unit to pay homage at the behest of the unit’s Commanding Officer and all ranks. Family members of the martyr also attended the function.
