The Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Dr Rajiv Bindal, today directed officials of the Nahan Municipal Committee to prepare a masterplan for comprehensive development of the town in sync with the centrally-sponsored Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation.

He said after Kolkata, Nahan was the second such MC in the country which had a heritage status and money would not be a constraint in its development. He said special emphasis would be laid on preserving the heritage buildings, including the historic pond in the town.

He also said possibility of developing the land belonging to the ancient Nahan foundry on the lines of Faridabad as a craft village would be explored. This will bring employment opportunities to the rural craftsman, besides ensuring that this will also enable the town find a place on the tourist map of the country. He directed the district administration as well as the MC officials to chalk out a plan for this work.

Bindal, who has been in action ever since the BJP government assumed power, also directed the officials to lay stress on maintaining cleanliness in the town and selecting appropriate parking places and said work to construct the new MC building at a cost of Rs 6 crore should begin soon. He informed that he would raise the issue of seeking funds for the Rs 89 crore waste management plant with the state government.

Bindal also held a meeting with the officials of the Revenue Department and directed them to facilitate grant of 2 to 3 biswas land to the landless at the earliest for construction of house. He said only a few people were benefitted by the government scheme and all pending cases should be sorted out at the earliest.

He said unavailability for land for the sanctioned primary health centres and sub-centres was worrisome and said such cases should be dealt with priority.
