Governor flags off ‘Swachh’ campaign

PALAMPUR: Governor Acharya Devvrat today launched the “Swachh Himachal” campaign, initiated by a Hindi daily of the state in the presence of Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, hundreds of students from different colleges and schools, members of social organisations, NGOs, municipal councillors and residents of the town.

Governor Acharya Devvrat today launched the “Swachh Himachal” campaign, initiated by a Hindi daily of the state in the presence of Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, hundreds of students from different colleges and schools, members of social organisations, NGOs, municipal councillors and residents of the town.

He flagged off a rally. The Governor said, “I am happy to be a part of this esteem initiative called Swachh Himachal of a media group of the state. I would like to congratulate the newspaper, students, other social bodies, NGOs and everybody else associated with this noble campaign. I will personally take interest in pursuing this campaign with the help of the state government and residents of the state. I would personally invite each individual to associate with this cause and make a difference in the way we live.”

The Governor said that Himachal was known for its salubrious climate and pristine beauty and it was essential to preserve the beauty of the hill state, which was possible if all sections of the society were involved.

He said sincere efforts should be made so that Himachal was made clean and green. He said schoolchildren could play an important role in this direction and motivate people to involve themselves in such social cause.

He said lakhs of tourists visited Himachal Pradesh every year and to promote tourism, villages, towns and cities should be kept clean.

Speaking on the occasion, the Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper said, “The campaign aims at creating awareness and understanding among the youth about the benefits of keeping the hill state clean and green. This campaign will be extended throughout the state, across 12 districts both in urban and rural areas.”
