Angry over the lackadaisical approach of the state Education Department towards their long-pending demands, government college teachers will boycott the evaluation work of 100 courses of the sixth semester, beginning tomorrow.

“The government has been playing with the sentiments of the teachers and repeatedly giving false assurances forcing us to take this step and now the government will be responsible for delay in declaration of results”, said Himachal Government College Teachers Association (HGCTA) president Rajesh Yadav.

“Step-motherly treatment is being meted out to teachers who are overburdened and working with half the strength” said general and joint secretary of the association R L Sharma and Joginder Saklani adding that the notification for regularization of contractual school teachers including PGT and TGT have been issued but the college teachers have been ignored.

Every contract teacher, eligible for regularization, is incurring a loss of Rs 1,000 per day due to delay in issue of notification for regularisation and till date the affected teachers have incurred a losses of Rs 30,000 each.

The announcement regarding regularisation of employees was made by the Chief Minister during the Budget session but the Additional Chief Secretary (Education) PC Dhiman did not care to implement the decision of the government, they added.

“We had sought modification in Academic Performance Indicator (API) based ACR proforma suiting the topography and educational environment of the state as a single teacher is supposed to teach 40 subjects under the new system and assigned work of two teachers which leaves no time for research but so far only one meeting has been convened regarding API and nothing concrete had been done,” they rued.

The association said the additional increments for M Phil and PhD withdrawn by the government from October 2014, had not been restored in spite of assurance from the Chief Minister while creation of posts of Professor in the colleges as per the UGC regulations and regularisation of teachers appointed through Public Service Commission are hanging fire.

The association had deferred the march to Raj Bhawan on the assurance of the ACS but no progress had been made and teachers are feeling cheated.
