Shimla, June 27
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s affinity to Himachal was clearly reflected in the choice of gifts he carried for US President Donald Trump, with the hamper consisting of traditional items like a handcrafted silver bracelet, hand-woven shawls and the aroma of Kangra tea and honey.
Considered his second home, Modi spent eight years in Himachal as BJP incharge. Modi makes his affection for Himachal known each time he visits the state. In Mandi during the LS election campaign in 2014, he recalled with fondness the taste of “sepu vadi”, a traditional delicacy. At a rally in the state capital, he mentioned names of local journalists with whom he regularly had coffee at the Indian Coffee House. — TNS
