HPU celebrates 48th Foundation Day

SHIMLA: Prof RS Chauhan, HPU Vice-Chancellor, said here today that the university had come a long way since July 22, 1970, when it was established with five teaching departments and 23 affiliated colleges.

Prof RS Chauhan, HPU Vice-Chancellor, said here today that the university had come a long way since July 22, 1970, when it was established with five teaching departments and 23 affiliated colleges. Today, it had 30 departments and more than 302 affiliated colleges, he said.

Speaking at the 48th Foundation Day of the university, Chauhan said the university had an International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) to impart quality education. He said it had achieved new heights in academics and was accredited “A” Grade University by NAAC in 2016.

The second edition of non-teaching employees journal ‘Navonveshi’ was also released on the occasion.

A cultural programme was organised jointly by students of performing arts (music) and non-teaching employees of the university. The VC also gave away awards for best work in academics, research and office. The award of best teacher of the year was conferred on Prof Jagat Bhushan Nadda of the university business school (MBA).

Prof Shanti Swaroop Sharma, professor, bio-sciences, bagged the best research of the year award, while Kali Ram Chauhan, Assistant Registrar, was awarded the best employee of the year. Jai Singh, a peon, was honoured for being the best employee in the Class IV category.
