Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has announced that a new degree college would be opened at Haroli. He was speaking after inaugurating the first cultural night of the Haroli festival in Kangar village last night. He said the new college would open the doors for the local youth seeking higher education.

Haroli already has two degree colleges in Beetan and Khad panchayats, the latter one being opened recently. The CM declared that Haroli festival would be given the status of a district fair at the next Cabinet meeting. He said fairs and festivals were the means to showcase, preserve and propagate the cultural heritage.

Punjabi Sufi singers, Nooran Sisters and Punjabi singer Hardy Sandhu enthralled the audience during the cultural night. Earlier, local school and college children also showcased their talent on the stage. Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri accompanied the CM.

The CM inspected various developmental works in the segment. He directed officers to complete the work on the first Skill Development Training Centre at Palkwah village by June. Inspecting the progress of work on the Rs 44 crore Beet Area Special Irrigation Scheme, he announced to release Rs 4 lakh for the completion of the works.

The CM met spiritual leader Sant Baba Dhanguwala, who runs a charity hospital in Beetan village. He promised to sanction a nursing college attached to the hospital if the charitable organisation completed the required formalities. He also inspected the progress on work of the Indian Oil depot at Rampur village on which Rs 500 crore was being spent.


Rs 5-cr bull the attraction

Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who was the chief guest on the second day of the Haroli festival today, inaugurated a cattle show in Kangar village, where exotic breeds of cattle were displayed. A bull, priced at Rs 5 crore, owned by Narinder Singh from Moli village in Kapurthala district of Punjab, was the major attraction for local farmers. Events such as motorcycle stunts, horse dance, tug of war and rangoli competitions were organised on the occasion.
