Nurpur, December 12

The two-day state level weightlifting competition concluded at Seven Star International School in Bani of Jawali last evening. Kangra won the overall championship trophy in both men’s and women’s category while Solan and Una were runners up in men’s and women’s category, respectively. The championship was organised by Himachal Pradesh Weight Lifting Association (HPWLA).

Six teams comprising 150 players from Shimla, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Una and Mandi districts participated in the championship.

Rekha Rani from Una set a record by lifting 180 kilogram weight. Priya Nirmal Singh from Kangra and Rekha Rani from Una district were declared best performers at the state level event. International weightlifting refree Lt Pal Singh Sandhu (retd) awarded medals to the winners.

Pradeep Sharma, president of the HPWLA, told The Tribune that the association would short list winners of the state level championship for the National Weight Lifting Championship (senior) 2017 to be organised from December 21 to 26 at Bengaluru in Karnataka.
