Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur said Rs 501.48 lakh would be spent on drinking water schemes in his constituency at Drang in the district during the current financial year. The minister today inaugurated a drinking water scheme at Neri village under Gram Panchayat Tandu at a cost of Rs 44 lakh. He also inaugurated the Bijni-Nari road and the Bhatog-Hyun link road.
Addressing a public meeting in Neri village, the minister stated that with the completion of this scheme, about 500 inhabitants of Neri, Upper and lower Maigal villages would get drinking water facilities. He added that 18 drinking water schemes were under progress, which will provide drinking water facility to the habitants of 19 villages.
He said that 261 hand pumps were functional in the area out of which 97 had been provided during the Congress regime. A target of installing 20 new hand pumps this year has been achieved. The construction work of Katindi lifting drinking water scheme was in the final stages. After this, Lambi and Neri villages would be linked with this scheme to ensure additional supply of drinking water to the people.
