Shimla, March 16

A CBI court today gave the approval for taking voice samples of six police personnel, who had been arrested for the custodial death of an accused in the rape and murder case of a Kotkhai girl.

The court extended the judicial custody of nine police personnel, including IG Zahur Zaidi, SP DW Negi and DSP Manoj Joshi, till March 23.

They had been arrested for the custodial death of a Nepalese Suraj, who died in the police lock-up in Kotkhai. The CBI has filed a chargesheet though it is yet to crack the rape and murder case.

The court gave nod for taking of voice samples of six of the arrested police personnel in Shimla and Chandigarh. The samples will be taken from BSNL, Airtel and Jio offices in Shimla and these will be taken from the Reliance offices in Chandigarh. The court has not given permission for taking voice sample of the IG, the SP and the DIG as the CBI is yet to submit the prosecution sanction in case of these three officers. The CBI will now file a reply in court on March 23.

The CBI had sought the court permission to take voice samples of these police officials as it had found voice recordings in the seized mobile phones and computers which it wants to match.
