Mandi, June 27
Arrangements are on to draw Sindhu Darshan Festival pilgrims to the Chandra-Bhaga Sangam Parv in Lahaul-Spiti district.
On June 29, a mega cultural and spiritual event will be organised by the Chandra-Bhaga Sangam Parv Organisation Committee in the district.
Coordinator of the committee Chander Mohan Parsheera said the event was being held for the first time and more than 8,000 people were expected to turn up.
“The event will be a blend of spirituality and culture. On the day, mortal remains of Ashok Singhal, who was the leader of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, will be immersed in the Chandrabhaga river. Cultural programmes will also be held. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma will be the chief guest,” he added.
“To promote tourism in the district, we will schedule the event in such a manner that those coming for the Sindhu Darhsan Festival make it a point to attend the sangam in Lahaul-Spiti, which is the gateway to Leh-Ladakh and is visited by thousands of tourists,” he remarked.
The Sindhu Darshan Festival is held on the full moon day (on Guru Purnima) in the month of June.
Appreciating the move of the Chandra-Bhaga Sangam Parv Organisation Committee, locals said the state government has made no efforts to attract pilgrims of the Sindhu Darshan Festival, which would have promoted tourism and enhanced the economy.
