Landslide damages houses in Kangra

KANGRA: Residents of Sard Bammi village near Rakkar in Dehra subdivision of the district abandoned their houses after debris of a landslide entered 18 houses and washed away seven cattle head.

Residents of Sard Bammi village near Rakkar in Dehra subdivision of the district abandoned their houses after debris of a landslide entered 18 houses and washed away seven cattle head.

Tilak Raj Sharma, a resident, said they feared returning to the village after the incident.

Residents said several landslides had occurred in the village during the past years and a person was also killed last year. They alleged that the authorities concerned had been apprised of the situation, but nothing had been done to prevent the recurrence of landslides.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continues to lash Kangra valley. The town repo-rtedly received 161.6 mm rain in the past 48 hours. Baner, Manji and Manooni rivers are in spate due to inces-sant rain.

Landslides occurred at two places on the Bani-Sehri road today. Sachin Pratik Sharma, a resident of Baldoh village, said over 3,000 residents of Srinagar, Jawas, Baldoh and Gadot villages faced problem in commuting.

Girl drowns in nullah in Kangra 

Kangra: An 11-year-old girl reportedly drowned in a village nullah at Sukha Bagh falling under the Haripur Police station on Monday. The police said the victim had been identified as Kashish. She was playing with some children near her house when she fell into a nullah and drowned. The body was recovered from underneath a culvert in the village. OC
