Mandi, April 27
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has completed shifting of its BTech students to the Kamand campus, nearly 15 km from here.
In a statement issued here, Mohammad Shakeel, Registrar, IIT, stated that IIT-Mandi had shifted BTech students from its Mandi transit campus to its permanent campus at Kamand. The shifting was made possible by the inaugurations of new academic and hostel blocks at Kamand, he said.
Prof BD Chaudhary, Dean (Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy), IIT-Mandi, had inaugurated an academic building at IIT Mandi’s Kamand campus. Chaudhary said the inauguration of a building was like celebrating a new life and that the new academic block would be associated with countless memories. Other dignitaries who attended the occasion included Prof Timothy A. Gonsalves, Director, IIT, Prof BS Subramanian, Dean (students), Prof Ramesh Oruganti, Dean (academics), and Prof Satish Chandra Jain, Dean (I&S).
The Registrar said with the moving of the second year BTech students to Kamand, IIT-Mandi was one of the first among the new IITs to completely shift its BTech programme to its permanent campus.
However, the IIT would continue to use the academic building on its Mandi campus for faculty offices and project labs, he added.
